About Meta Platforms, Inc.
Meta Platforms operates Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, serving billions of users worldwide. Under CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company expanded from social networking into virtual reality (Quest headsets) and AI infrastructure, becoming one of the largest digital advertising businesses in the world.
The Story
Meta (then Facebook) appeared in our pipeline as a MONITOR signal on 16 trading days between December 2013 and July 2015. During that window, the stock traded between $55 and $97 โ within our $5โ$100 screening range. The system detected Meta's fundamental quality and technical momentum but never scored it high enough for OPPORTUNITY. Meta peaked at 60 out of 100, with quality at 36 out of 60 and entry timing at 14 out of 20. It received the full sector bonus for its technology classification. The gap to OPPORTUNITY (70) was 10 points โ primarily a quality shortfall. Importantly, backtests don't include sentiment scoring. In live screening, AI news analysis adds 0โ10 points based on recent coverage. For a company like Facebook dominating headlines in 2013โ2015, positive sentiment could easily have added 5โ10 points โ pushing the score to 65โ70 and potentially reaching OPPORTUNITY. We can't score historical news retroactively, but this is a stock where live screening may have made the difference. After mid-2015, Meta's stock price crossed above $100 and never returned. From that point forward, the stock was outside our screening range entirely. The system couldn't evaluate it even if the fundamentals improved โ which they dramatically did.
Signal Log โ All 16 Days
Every day META appeared as a MONITOR signal in our pipeline, with the score breakdown and return from entry to present. How scoring works โ
Returns measured from entry price to 2026-02-01. Split-adjusted OHLCV. Score breakdown: Q=quality (0โ60), E=entry (0โ20), S=sentiment (0โ10), B=sector bonus (0โ10). Sentiment scores show as 0 because backtests use historical data โ AI news sentiment analysis is only available in our live daily screening. In live mode, positive news coverage typically adds 5โ10 points. With positive coverage, META's scores could have been 5โ10 points higher. Past performance does not indicate future results.
Why META Never Reached OPPORTUNITY
META appeared 16 times as MONITOR but never scored high enough for OPPORTUNITY (70). Here's the scoring breakdown on its best day.
Quality Score: 36/60
5 of 9 quality signals fired. Mixed fundamentals โ trend and momentum signals fired, but key profitability and balance sheet signals did not reach our thresholds at the time.

What This Teaches
Meta illustrates how our price ceiling creates blind spots for stocks that graduate out of the range. The $5โ$100 range is designed to capture high-growth stocks during their acceleration phase โ before they become mega-caps. Meta was in that phase in 2013โ2015, and the system saw it, but the quality score wasn't strong enough for a full signal. The irony: Meta's quality score was held back by early-stage financials that hadn't yet fully matured. By the time profitability and balance sheet strength caught up, the stock was above $100 and invisible to the screener. This is the trade-off of a price-bounded system โ it catches stocks on the way up, but only while they're still in the window.
