About Netflix, Inc.
Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) is an American entertainment company that operates a subscription-based over-the-top video streaming service, delivering movies, TV shows, and original programming to users worldwide.
The Story
For years Netflix sat on our MONITOR watchlist, just short of an actionable call. Under the current scoring model it finally crossed into an OPPORTUNITY signal on 2024-09-03. Held from that entry to early 2026, Netflix returned +23.6%. The catch is that SPY returned +26.5% over the same window, so the stock lagged the market by roughly three points. It made money in absolute terms, but it trailed the index, and trailing the market on negative alpha is what we count as a loss, not a dollar loss. There is also an important caveat: backtests do not include sentiment scoring. In live daily screening, AI news analysis adds 0 to 10 points based on recent coverage. For a heavily covered name like Netflix, a neutral-to-positive sentiment score (5 to 10 points) could have lifted the signal earlier or to a higher tier, though it would not have changed how the stock performed against the market.
Signal Log: All 1 Days
Every day NFLX passed our 5-stage pipeline, with the signal level and score breakdown. How scoring works โ
Returns measured from entry price to 2026-02-01. Split-adjusted OHLCV. Score breakdown: Q=quality (0โ60), E=entry (0โ20), S=sentiment (0โ10), B=sector bonus (0โ10). Sentiment scores show as 0 because backtests use historical data, AI news sentiment analysis is only available in our live daily screening. In live mode, positive news coverage typically adds 5โ10 points. Past performance does not indicate future results.

What This Teaches
A loss in our system means underperforming the market, not losing money. Netflix is the cleanest illustration: a +23.6% gain is a good year in isolation, but the index did slightly better, so on a relative basis the position was a small drag rather than a contributor. It is also a reminder that the watchlist is not the buy list. Netflix spent a long stretch on MONITOR before it ever became actionable, and when it finally did, the entry landed just behind the market. We show it because the honest version of a track record includes the entries that merely kept pace.
